The Royal Mummies Hall is most important Hall to visit. It’s specially designed to display the mummies of Egypt’s ancient kings and queens. It aims to give the visitor the sensation of strolling along the Valley of the Kings, where most of these mummies originally rested.
The room includes 20 royal mummies, 18 kings, and two queens from the 17th to the 20th Dynasty. The most famous mummies are Hatshepsut (Maatkare), Thutmose III (Menkheperre), Seqenenre Taa II.
The discovery of the New Kingdom royal mummies was one of the most important and unexpected discoveries in the history of archaeology. On this occasion, the discovery did not concern the usual architectural and artistic masterpieces but the sacred bodies of the builders of Egyptian civilization during the New Kingdom. These are the same builders who believed in life after death and devoted much of their wealth to defeating death. According to their beliefs, they kept their bodies for their souls.
They built their tombs in cliffs of the king’s valley on the west bank of the Nile, near their capital at Thebes, and equipped them with all the items necessary for the afterlife.
